Natural Fertility

Katie has over 16 years of experience helping Couples become parents. She believes that combining Acupuncture, Acupressure, Aromatherapy and Crystal Healing is the most powerful way of unblocking emotional, and physical issues that prevent couples conceiving. A detailed consultation including lifestyle, diet and menstrual cycle are discussed and worked with to create balance. If possible a Zoom Consultation with the couple is ideal as achieving a pregnancy, and a healthy baby is a partnership of both the male and female. In Traditional Chinese Medicine there is no such thing as unexplained fertility issues.

How does acupuncture help with fertility?

For women acupuncture has shown to improve the blood flow to the ovaries by inhibiting activity in the sympathetic nervous system which is triggered by stress. When you get stressed, your body activates the sympathetic nervous system (the fight or flight response) which can disrupt the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis; these are the main endocrine glands associated with reproductive health. Stress also causes your ovarian arteries to constrict, reducing the blood flow to the ovaries.

Acupuncture can improve the thickness of the endometrial lining (lining of the uterus) to assist with implantation by increasing blood flow to the area.

Benefits of acupuncture for fertility

  • Balancing both male and female hormone levels so the body produces the necessary reproductive hormones for conception.
  • Regulating a female’s menstrual cycle by enhancing the communication between the brain and the ovaries to promote ovulation and normal hormone production.
  • Enhancing blood flow to the uterus and ovaries which can improve the chances of implantation.
  • Optimizing sperm health by increasing sperm count and improving motility.
  • Reducing stress and anxietyand promoting relaxation which is essential for couples trying to conceive. When you are stressed, your body produces the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline which negatively affect your reproductive hormones. Chronic stress can impact a woman’s menstrual cycle and impair ovulation; for men, it can reduce testosterone levels and sperm quality.

How many sessions of acupuncture do you need for fertility?

Using acupuncture to boost fertility can be very beneficial. The number of acupuncture sessions you’ll require depends on your personal constitution, medical history, individual needs and how you respond to the acupuncture treatment. Typically, ten to twelve sessions are recommended as a starting point. Your acupuncturist will advise you on how many sessions of acupuncture might be required during the first session once they have taken a case history and assessed your needs.

Why come to Katie for help?

Katie has 18 years clinical experience working with all aspects of fertility, including pregnancy loss. She believes there is no such thing as unexplained infertility, and each couple are totally unique and must be treated as such.

Katie brings in the elements of energy (crystals), sound therapy along with some very powerful essential oils. The combination of these help to bring the body, mind and spirit back into harmony.

Getting a woman to trust her body and its ability to conceive and sustain a healthy pregnancy is essential. She believes too much emphasis is placed on the “trying” and not enough attention given to the emotional body. The focus here at the Clinic is to get the body baby ready, ideally in a three-month window.

Katie is a firm believer if you can conceive a baby in your mind’s eye you can conceive a baby in your body.

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, ‘I’ll try again tomorrow.’” — Mary Anne Radmacher

Acupuncture & IVF

Acupuncture can promote relaxation and relieve stress, both of which can be beneficial when going through treatments like IVF. It is typically performed during the lead-up to an IVF cycle and immediately before and after embryo transfer, at times when your body will benefit the most from being fully relaxed.

Evidence suggests that the mind has a very strong impact on the body. Reconnecting each woman to her body, allowing trust to be placed back into the mind is very important. My personalised and holistic approach to fertility works on all aspects of the body, emotionally and physically but also spiritually.

I believe if you can conceive something in your minds eye, you can conceive it in your body.

How can acupuncture help fertility or support my IVF/ICSI?

Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture can:

  • Help regulate female and male reproductive hormones
  • Improve blood circulation to the ovaries and uterus
  • Support ovulation
  • Help to reduce cortisol levels – the body’s main stress hormone
  • Help to promote follicle development
  • Help the body deal with the side effects of medication
  • Reduces stress and anxiety.

When is it recommended that I have acupuncture during my IVF/ ICSI?

I would recommend acupuncture in the 3 months leading up to your IVF/ ICSI cycle, as sperm and follicles take 100 days to mature. Acupuncture may also benefit you during your IVF stimulation phase, before and after embryo transfer and 7 days after your embryo transfer.

What happens during my initial consultation?

In your initial consultation, you will have an in-depth discussion about your fertility history, current medical health and lifestyle. Katie will take your pulse and look at your tongue. This helps Katie to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Acupuncture needles will be then be inserted into different parts of your body and you will relax for 20-30 minutes. Many people fall asleep during acupuncture and feel very relaxed afterwards.

During the two-week wait, which is often an anxious time, we offer women a very gentle acupuncture treatment for stress and relaxation between days 7 and 10. These are very comforting sessions which help to support your body and relieve tension whilst you await your pregnancy result.

What can you do whilst you wait for a consultation with Katie?

Start Journaling your feelings, this can be very useful, and helps aid sleep, especially if it’s done just before bed.

Vision board what you want, be very specific and enjoy the experience.

Make sure you are taking the right supplements. Most clinics are very aware how important a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle is to improving the overall result of an Ivf cycle.
